sick day, pt. V.

A selfie I took while going on a walk.

It's been a week since I came down with the flu and the damp weather finally relented, so I went out for a walk today after I ate lunch. It felt really nice to get out there, although 76°F is unseasonably warm for January even here in the south. Only a few degrees below the hottest it's been recorded!

I'm definitely not at 100% yet, but it was good to move my body a little to stave off the cabin fever. I'm fortunate to have employment where I can work from home, but even a programmer needs to get out and about every once in a while! I'm feeling a lot better, not running a fever, and I can even breathe occasionally.

My short call with the Strong Towns folks went really well yesterday. It was really nice to meet other folks doing the same sort of local advocacy we hope to be doing and have that support. I'm stoked to build our relationship with those folks— being able to lean on the experience of other organizations who have been through all the growing pains in our future will be immeasurably helpful!

Other than that, I've been playing the snot out of the Sega CD version of NHL '94. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this game— it's not one I'd ever played or even heard about growing up, but I'm sure glad I did. We've got the hockey bug something fierce since we started following our local team last year, so it's real nice to get my hockey fix on my little handheld emulator until we're able to attend a game again. My wrists are cramping up with all the button mashing, though! 😅

The warm weather returns to cool and damp this weekend, so I'm glad to have gotten some sun in today. It won't be long before spring is here and I can retire all the wool I wear to keep myself warm bicycling until next winter. Perhaps even go camping but definitely back to mowing the yard every few weeks. There's ups and downs to every season!

Until next time, be well. :)
