calling: memphis 2026.
saturday, march 28th, 2026.

Zippi, I, and our friends on "Team Daeton" spent last weekend in Memphis at Calling: Memphis playing competitive Flesh & Blood and we had a blast. We drove up Thursday night and got there at about 2 in the morning. Crashed at the hotel with five folks in one room, then slung cardboard the whole dang weekend. We pretty much didn't stop except for eating together for dinner at a few nice places around Memphis. It was amazing.

One thing I've learned about myself after playing mostly Dash and Slippy (as seen in the photo above): I actually really enjoy aggro decks. Normally I'm running my fatigue Huntsman deck, but I realized that I needed to take a break from fatigue gaming after seven rounds of taking up the full 55 minutes at Battle Hardened: Atlanta in January. It was so nice to have 15-20 minutes between rounds— to shoot the breeze with my opponent, grab a snack, or drop by the restroom without feeling like I'm running frantically from one match to the next.
I didn't fare too well in the main events, but I think I've discovered that I do enjoy the side events a lot more and I think I'm just a side event gamer now. I don't see myself going deep enough into this hobby to be competitive competitive. I'm just here to have a good time and do fair-to-middlin'. Our new teammate, Zach, actually managed to place third in the Calling on Arakni, Marionette! We were so hyped for him to do so well!

Our teammate, Daeton, also did pretty well in the Silver Age Showdown on Sunday, so the rest of us got a chance to swing by the Bass Pro Shops pyramid. It's something we kept saying we wanted to visit and... it's about what you'd expect. But we checked that box, so there! After we picked Daeton up from the convention center, we hopped back in the car for the long ride home. Zippi wound up taking (and passing!) the Level 1 judge exams in the car to pass the time. We eventually got home at about 4am so Monday was a "play hooky and take a rest day" sort of day.
So— yeah! We had an amazing time in Memphis and just really love hanging out with our friends and slinging cardboard. This is our second Calling and we'll for sure be going on more road trips to other large events.
Until next time, be well! :)
