It's a short entry today! First off, we seem to have weathered Hurricane Helene just fine. There were a lot of folks without power today and plenty of felled trees, but we seem to have gotten lucky, thank goodness.
I got a text from my bike mechanic this afternoon— they finished replacing my Marin Muirwood's drivetrain! My old 3x7 setup was giving me trouble and was rusty & well-worn besides, so I asked if they could put a 1x8 drivetrain on it. My mechanic picked out a 1x9 Shimano CUES drivetrain and got it all set up for me.
They really had to put some leverage on the bottom bracket to get it released since it had all but rusted through, but they got me taken care of! I took it for a test ride around my rather hilly neighborhood and that 9-sprocket cassette had plenty of range to it. I won't miss the 21 mostly-overlapping gears of my old setup too much, with its problematic front derailleur.
I'm excited to take my old rusty, trusty Marin Muirwoods for a spin on my Monday morning commute! It's good to have a reliable back-up bike once again.
Until next time, be well! :)
