got married!
friday, april 19th, 2024.
Whoa hey, it's been a hot minute since I've written here. My apologies, I've been busy! Perhaps most importantly— we got married! Just a quiet little ceremony at the courthouse with our parents so we can save up for a honeymoon in the fall. We're planning on taking an Amtrak trip on the California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco. Super hyped about that, but first I've gotta save up some time off so we can take the whole week off and enjoy our time together!
Really, I've just been basking in how gosh dang happy I am with our life together. They make me a better person and I'm so grateful to have such a positive, thoughtful, and loving partner in my life. OK— enough mushy stuff!
In other news, I keep on keepin' on with the bicycle advocacy. Got appointed to one of our local transportation committees by city council and have been gently pushing for more participation, although I'm holding back until my organization partner makes it back home from a long trip overseas so we can get some insurance for our group rides. We're also gonna start collecting donations under the fiscal sponsorship of a larger state-wide bicycle advocacy organization. That way, we don't have to worry about the 501(c)(3) paperwork until we get our feet under us.
I've also been joining in with some group rides with some local athletic cyclists. Although the Venn diagram of athletic cycling and transportation cycling isn't a circle, I figure it's a good way to start reaching out to local cycling folks. I've been participating in their beginner rides, which are usually a pretty slow affair. This week, though, everyone in attendance wanted to go a little faster & further, so I got to take my hybrid commuter bike for a 27 mile ride at something just shy of a 15 mph average.
Happy to say that I was able to keep up just fine on my heavy steel bike, but it really does make me pine for a proper road bike! All things in due time, of course.
So yeah, life has been pretty good over the last month! Hopefully I'll write a little more often now that all the excitement has kinda settled down. I'm just so filled with gratitude these days!
Until next time, be well! :)
