wow, fast year, huh?

wednesday, december 20th, 2023.

Man, where did this year go? 2024 is nearly upon us and I'm amazed at how fast the year flew by. Christmas is right around the bend, then it's new years— a time of reflection and setting intentions for the year to come. Not yet, though! For now, my partner is wrapping gifts while we listen to soma.fm's Xmas in Frisko channel for some really bizarre holiday tunes. I've got two days left until I'm off for a whole week and some change. Gosh, I'm looking forward to the holidays eagerly. We'll have a full house, with my partner's dad coming to visit and the girls spending a good chunk of the week with us. I can't wait!

riding e-bikes.

Riding e-bikes with my friend last weekend was pretty rad. According to his bike computer, we covered some 35 miles. We basically went all over the city while we talked about ways to connect parks and roads and all that sort of geeky transportation stuff. It was my first time riding one and he was 100% right— e-bikes are game-changers. We might buy one for my partner to ride with our tax refund next year. You really can cover a lot of ground without breaking a sweat (unless you want to).

gaming things.

A few days ago, I wrote about beer & pretzel wargaming I've been doing. I ended up going back to Panzer Corps to compare it with Hex of Steel and I think I've concluded that I vastly prefer Panzer Corps, after all. Each scenario plays quickly, there aren't more units than I can keep track of, and the battles just aren't the massive wars of attrition and unit-buying like Hex of Steel has. I suppose it's different strokes for different folks, but I really like being able to turn my brain off and send my pixel artillery pieces in for a volley without thinking too much about managing a tech tree, y'know?

Also: I've installed Visual Boy Advance so that I can emulate some of my favorite Game Boy Advance games, like Advance Wars. My Lenovo X250 running Manjaro seems to be able to handle it just fine without overheating, too.

I suppose that's all for now! I hope you have an amazing holiday season.

Until next time, be well! :)
