pumpkin pie & thanksgiving break.
wednesday, november 22nd, 2023.
I'm off 5 days for Thanksgiving! Super glad to take a breather and spend time with family, that's for sure.
Earlier this week my new friend and I met at the city council meeting. It was super interesting watching how the government sausage gets made. It seems that everything on the agenda was predetermined and unanimously agreed upon. There were a couple periods available for public comment subject to Robert's Rules of Order, but nobody from the public took the podium. I hope to change that someday once we have our movement up and running with a few more members.
With all the excitement of learning how government works and brainstorming ways to influence it for the better, I've not been getting much sleep lately. Pretty rough time to be attempting to cut back on caffeine, too. Spoiler alert: I've been consuming the same amount of caffeine.
Anyway, today we're off to go visit coparent for a big Thanksgiving get together and then bring the kiddos back home for the rest of the week. I'm really looking forward to a relaxing period of recovery and spending time with everyone.
With the large crew coming, it seemed like every dish was spoken for, so my partner put together some macaroni and cheese (with actual, high-quality cheese) and I baked two pumpkin pies!
It's my first time making a pie, thanks to a recipe from The Joy of Cooking. It was a learning experience, that's for sure. The Joy of Cooking had instructions for so many different types of pies and crusts— including directions for all sorts of decorations and embellishments, lattice work and fancy weaved crusts. I decided pressing the rim with a fork was enough for my first time. 😅
I'm so pumped to try this pie out. I'm fifty-fifty on whether or not it'll taste any better than your bog standard, store-bought pumpkin pie, but knowing that I made it from scratch will surely make it taste all the better to me!
Until next time, be well! I hope you'll enjoy the holidays if you're celebrating them right now. :)
Edit: oh, by the way, this song is my new current obsession after it hit my partner's Discover Weekly playlist:
