truing my bicycle wheel.
wednesday, july 26th, 2023.
I dropped my bike last Saturday while I was hosing it off and the wheel hit the edge of my flowerbed. The rim bent a little, and the brake started rubbing one side of the rim sporadically. I found a video on YouTube that shows how to true a wheel and ordered a spoke wrench to true the wheel myself.
Another video recommended using zip-ties as a cheap DIY way of gauging how straight the rim is. So I put one on each side of the front fork and used them like turntable needles on my rim. It took me about 20 minutes and an $11 part, but I did it! I think it turned out pretty well. 🥰
Oiled my bike chain and took the bike for a quick spin around the neighborhood— I think it actually brakes better now than before dropping it and bending my rim! I did have to chisel off a shard of metal where the brake contacts the rim, though. I suppose that's where the rim actually contacted the brickwork.
Anyway, I'm pretty proud of fixing my bike!
Until next time, be well! :)
