added a splash of color to my site!

sunday, july 16th, 2023.

I was reading J.B. Crawford's COMPUTERS ARE BAD newsletter the other day and something about the website's aesthetic grabbed me. Specifically, the tiled background behind the main white text body. So I stole a little of J.B.'s CSS and added a tiled background to this website! I hope they don't mind too much. I added a little twist with the black border and boxy drop shadow.

I've gotta say that I love having some color on my website! Much as I adore the plain white technical manual aesthetic— this gives my site a little depth while retaining the look I vibe with so much. I got this particular background tile from a reddit dump of tiled backgrounds I stumbled upon last night.

out & about this weekend.

My friend (metamour?) sent me this amazing t-shirt a few days ago:

My new t-shirt that proclaims 'proudly old and cringy.'

I've worn it for a day so far and I've already gotten a number of compliments on it while out and about. It's true, though! I do lean into the cringy and I love this shirt so dang much. 🥰

We didn't wind up making it to the lake yesterday. The weather forecast changed and it threatened rain and thunderstorms so we abandoned those plans and got our laundry done instead. I got the grocery shopping done this morning to get it out of the way, then we went to Waffle House for a big breakfast and spent a solid five hours at the lake.

Our view at the beach today.

It was so hot, but we brought a canopy and made many trips to dunk ourselves in the water. Plenty of drinks to stay hydrated and a gentle breeze kept us from overheating too much. It was a beautiful summer day at the lake!

We wrapped up our trip with a delicious "classic margherita" with artichoke pizza from Uncle Maddio's, then my partner ran into the craft store to pick up some supplies.

back indoors & relaxing.

My partner is now digging into a new diamond painting kit! It's a bit like a cross between a Bedazzler and paint-by-numbers. We're enjoying some soul music on the radio and they are intensely focused on the project at hand.

I'm not gonna lie, it's real nice to get back into the air conditioning. It looks like the temperatures here might sore into the hundreds (Fahrenheit) next week, so I'll need to be careful and stay hydrated if I'm going to safely make my bicycle commute home in the evenings.

The errands complete, I'll probably play some video games this evening. The end-game content in Diablo IV is actually pretty darn enjoyable, so that might be the move tonight. I've also been poking at Dragon Quest XI on the Switch. Both are great options!

Until next time, be well! :)
