no place like home.

sunday, july 2nd, 2023.

Oh my goodness, we finally got home from North Carolina yesterday after being in the car for over 10 hours. It felt so damn good to sleep in our own bed. My partner and I hadn't been sleeping well for the better part of a week— half due to an unfamiliar bed and half due to sharing a room with the little one, who has a penchant for waking up often and whispering things like "mommy, it's dark in here!"

We had a really good time visiting my folks up there, though! Being in the Down East was relaxing and very good for our souls.

I've accumulated a few habits in the break that I'd like to rid myself of, though— we ate poorly (so much snacking!), I had a beer most days, and I spent a lot of my "down" time browsing Reddit on my phone. None of these were particularly problematic, but they're all things I'd like to not continue. I'll try to be more mindful of my eating habits, abstain from drinking, and not bring my phone to bed with me.

The weather is supposed to be hot with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms all week. As long as it's not raining in the morning, I'm going to try to make a go of commuting to work by bicycle. Once I have those new panniers, the only thing getting wet will be me, my t-shirt, and my gym shorts.

July 4th is Tuesday. It'll be nice to have a little break in the middle of the week. A mini-vacation post-vacation, as it were!

I suppose that's all for now! Be well. :)
